Isabel and the Hungry Coyote / Isabel y el coyote hambriento (Raven Tree Press, 2004), written by Keith Polette of El Paso, TX, has been nominated for the prestigious Golden Spur Award for Texas Authors in the Younger Childrenís Literature division.

 

The Golden Spur Award for Texas Authors was created in 2004 by the Texas State Reading Association to recognize and honor the stateís talented writers and to encourage young readers to read. Winners will be announced at the at the State Conference on Literacy in Houston this November.

 

Isabel and the Hungry Coyote / Isabel y el coyote hambriento is a wonderfully humorous tale in which tamales and chili sauce are the coyoteís downfall in a retelling of the classic Little Red Riding Hood story. Set in the American southwest, Isabel outwits coyote with self-reliance and bravery. The book features English text with intermittent Spanish.

 

Keith Polette is currently an Associate Professor of English and the Director of the English Education program at the University of Texas at El Paso.
