My Pal, Victor / Mi amigo, VÌctor Wins Schneider Family Book Award

 

The American Library Association (ALA) announced My Pal, Victor / Mi amigo, VÌctor (Raven Tree Press, 2004), written

by Diane Gonzales Bertrand and illustrated by Robert L. Sweetland, as the winner of The Schneider Family Book Award for best picture book for young children. The award honors an author and illustrator for a book that embodies an artistic expression of the disability experience for child and adolescent audiences.

 

My Pal, Victor / Mi amigo, VÌctor is the story of two Latino boys who experience carefree camaraderie despite one boyís disability. Fun and friendship overpower physical limitations.ÝÝ Diane Gonzales Bertrand is Writer-in-Residence at St. Maryís University and lives in San Antonio, TX. Diane has received several awards from the National Latino Literary Hall of Fame for her childrenís picture books and young adult novels.Ý Robert Sweetland lives in Green Bay, WI and was schooled at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. This is Bobís third picture book with Raven Tree Press.
